Why fish with O'Brien Charters?

Colin O'Brien and his son Gary have been charter fishing owner/operators on the Sapphire Coast for over twenty years.  Colin and Gary both have clients that return to fish with them year after year.  They boast a long list of major tournament successes.

Their boats are kept in immaculate condition, both mechanically and in presentation and, naturally, meet all safety standard laws.  Colin and Gary are both qualified and licenced charter operators who only work with a qualified crew.   Above all, Colin and Gary love fishing.

Where we are

Welcome to Bermagui, New South Wales' premier game and reef fishing location.  Bermagui is located on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia.  This part of the coast is also known as the "Sapphire Coast".

Bermagui is a five-hour drive south of Sydney, a nine-hour drive north of Melbourne, and a two and a half hour drive south east of Canberra.  Over half of Australia's population is within a day's drive of Bermagui.

You can meet up with your O'Brien Fishing Charter skipper on the bottom left hand side of the Harbour as depicted in the Google Map Below.

Just look for the O'Brien signs and yellow vessels.

Why fish from Bermagui?

The rich fishing grounds off Bermagui have long been a sought after destination for discerning and novice anglers.  The game fishing enthusiast is blessed with Bermagui being the closest port  in Australia to the continental shelf.  It's a pretty quick and comfortable trip out to the blue water where black, blue and striped marlin can be caught.

Yellowfin tuna and bluefin tuna also migrate through the waters off Bermagui.  Furthermore, the reefs abound with excellent table fish such as snapper, morwong, flathead, and leatherjacket.

Where to stay

There is a variety of accommodation available in Bermagui.  From quaint, to comfortable to four star, Bermagui caters for all tastes and all budgets.  There are motels, self-contained units and holiday homes.  Again, we can assist you with your arrangements for somewhere to stay.

Prices vary of course, but as a rough guide, you can expect to pay from around AUD$25pp per night based on six staying in a self-contained unit.
